Out and about in Kuala Lumpur

After a pretty good sleep (sadly I think a great sleep is going to take a few more days) on the gorgeous marshmallow bed in our room, we got up in time for breakfast in the Horizon Club Lounge. In what must be the agreed style (and obviously the most sensible approach) the breakie choices are laid out buffet style with the exception of the egg dishes which you order along with your tea and coffee selections. The selections are impressive and include almost anything you could wish for, with even of course the sweetest tooth catered for.

We then head for the bus stop where we will catch the “KL hop on hop off city tour”. The tour route covers (I believe) all the major attractions in the city as well as shopping centres (and there are a heap) and there is on board commentary provided by the guy who stands next to the bus driver when you get on board. It is cheap and gives you a real sense of the city, and whilst there are times where you wonder what is being described to you, it is a great few hours in air conditioned comfort for the more faint hearted or sitting on top ducking on coming branches as they whizz by you.

We have a tour booked for the Petronas Towers later in the day, you need to book this in advance, and Steve was there at just after 8.00 am to get our spots. I am a little nervous about this, but as I do hate to miss out on stuff am also booked in. We arrive 15 minutes early for our tour, as per the information received and are broken into two groups before our pre tour briefing.

They are quite amazing buildings, you stop midway so that you have the opportunity to walk between the two buildings ( oh joy ), and then after 15 minutes take two more lifts to get to the 86th floor. They (Petronas) have been very clever in the design of the lifts , as whilst it is a glass elevator (I presume) you can’t actually see out and so you don’t see the speed in which you are travelling taking quite a bit if the anxiety away. Having said all of that it wasn’t something I really enjoyed, there were some nifty interactive aspects to some of the displays that I thought were cool but I never forgot how far from the ground I was. This of course was very entertaining for others !
