Ciao Italy (for now ), zdravo Croatia

We were a bit sad to be leaving the bellisimo Firenze this morning and making our way to Dubrovnik. The hotels we have stayed at so far have been really close to train stations which has made our coming and going really simple. From the Cerretani Hotel to the railway station was a 10 minute walk, some of it using an underpass which is fantastic as there are so many cars on the road and people. The interesting thing about Florence is that in terms of population it isn’t that much different than Canberra however whereas we are spread geographically across a larger mass, here they are not – which gives it a big sophisticated city feel which I have loved. As I board the train headed for Rome, I make a promise to myself that one day I will return here.

The train to Rome is a breeze, even with our cases and then we quickly board the train for Rome airport, another inexpensive and simple process. We were last at Rome airport about 10 years ago and boy has it changed, it’s a bit snazzy (surprisingly for such a busy airport – or maybe that’s the reason).

We flew into Croatia with an airline called Vueling, whom I’ve never heard of before. They are a low cost Spanish carrier and have a hub in Rome which is probably why I haven’t heard of them. Our experience with them was good, we got here safely and whilst there was a delay this was related to air traffic control and most importantly I liked their livery.

As we flew into Dubrovnik and I gazed out the window what I saw was all I had imagined, stunning!

We had arranged a car pickup for the four of us, which was great value at 24 euros as the place we are staying is out of town. The Hotel Mlini is right on the water and has a wonderful resort feel to it and yes you can see the Adriatic Sea from our balcony 😀. We got a great deal on this place, actually we have on all of our accomodation by shopping around a little.

Tonight we had dinner at a restaurant nearby, with a trio serenading us and the waves gently lapping on the shore (which isn’t sand it’s rocks). We are catching the hotel shuttle bus into town tomorrow to do a Game of Thrones tour, yeah yeah I know it’s cheesy but we can’t wait. Oh and tonight Pip and I tried another local Rose and we haven’t been disappointed yet, we may even come home as experts.
