Farewell

Today we have spent our last day in Italy at a lovely little beach with imported sand at a place called the Bay of Silence. The Bay is in the town of Sestri Levante which a reasonably short train trip from Rapallo (first two photos the courtesy of Steve).

From the moment that you step foot on said sand you are constantly accosted by guys selling umbrellas, light blankets, blow up lilos and cheap trinkets – it reminded me a bit of Bali. We purchased an umbrella for 10 euro (about $18.00), with the hope that we’d be able to traipse the rest of the way through Europe with it in our luggage..yep nah ! Once in the water it was easy to spot the two Aussies in the water, not another rashie to be seen.

The above imagine is from the beach around the other side called I think the Bay of Fairytales, the free bits weren’t as nice as the Bay of Silence but you can pay to sit on the beach with umbrellas ☂ and chairs if that’s your thing…

Our final meal back in Rapallo was at a restaurant that Marika suggested. The O Bansin is a little place hidden away in one the winding alleyways of Rapallo. It is tricky to find but it’s worth the search as it’s where the locals eat. The food was yummy, simple and inexpensive… lasagna and salad 😀.

Today’s entry was written with sadness, as at home the kind hearted and beautiful Debbie has been farewelled. She, her loving family and friends have been in our thoughts since we heard the sad news. We wish we could have been there with everyone at home to celebrate Deb’s life which was so full of love, friendship and laughter.

Ciao Rapallo, we will see you in another 10 years and a prayer from me to Deb with a hope that you are at peace🌹.
