Another big day today with us finishing up sitting under the stars in the mighty Sahara Desert.
One of the things we’ve noticed most about Morocco is that the people here are genuinely beautiful and gentle, and that they are passionate about their Sahara. This message is emblazoned on signs and fields in the Berber language.
There is such a diversity of culture and belief here, where people simply live side by side. I think many countries including our own could learn a lot from the Moroccan people who have been so tolerant of our inability to speak their language and have been so welcoming of six ratbag Australians with a keen interest to learn about the diversity of their community and the history of this amazing country.
Today Youssef who is a proud Berber man wore his traditional dress when taking us into the Sahara Desert. It was such a special thing to share this with us, and while I know he will bring others into this important space with other tour groups it felt very meaningful.
The Berbers are native to North Africa and are nomadic people of the Sahara Desert.
We had a beautiful day making our way to our camp site through this incredible place. To break up our trip to Tinghir Youssef stopped at a local market taking us through it like we were locals (haha we did stand out but that was okay) buying a kilo of yummy strawberries for just $0.50 AUD.

We even had time for a quick game of cricket on the Highway just as we drove toward the Sahara and proclaimed this spot the MCC, the Moroccan Cricket Club.

And then we arrived. I felt quite emotional when I first glimpsed this place. I hope that I never forget how breathtaking and beautiful the Sahara Desert is and how privileged I felt to have been carried across it by Dudley, it was a purely magical experience. The Sahara itself is very tranquil except for the occasional dune buggy roaring past and Mohammed who was guiding the camels was as gentle as the camels themselves. I loved every minute and would have continued on for another hour if I could have.

And our place for the night as we sat under the stars learning to play the drums and watch the stars go by was simply out of this world – so very very special.
