Ah Firenze you beauty

How wonderful to have the opportunity to fall in love with Florence for a second time.

We start our adventure in the galleries of Uffizi today. This gallery is one of Italys largest and most visited galleries containing an amazing pieces from the period of the Italian Renaissance. The audio guide is really fabulous. Here are some of my favourites.

Cupid and his beloved Psyche unearthed on the slopes of the Celia’s Hill 1666
Heavenly Venus created in the first half of the second century AD
Sarcophagus with the labours of Hercules
Island of Elba was painted along with two other maps in the sixteenth century
Haha mandatory selfie – who knows where I am looking 😂

Then onto the Palazzo Pitti is always such a great place to wander around and there is so much to include in this blog so I have just included some of my favourites. It is situated on the River Arno and was the original residence of Luca Pitti, a Florentine baker and then purchased by the Medici’s in 1550. The Palazzo is divided into five museums, you can buy tickets that you can use over five days if you are lucky enough to have that long in Florence.. ah I wish.

Hmmm I do love a chandelier

Behold this man as Pilate washes his hands. This painting is a depiction of Pilate signalling to the crowds that he washing his hands and the moment that Jesus was condemned to death. It is a magnificent painting with beautiful light spilling across it making you feel like you were there at the moment.

Ecco Homo painting by Antonio Ciseri. Behold the Man as Pilate washes his hands
And I do love a camel painting. Camelli Deserto created by Stefano Ussi
A very unusual set of smiling faces
And another one – love this 💗

From the Pitti Palace we had a day of just wandering and relaxing with dinner at a lovely cheap but cheerful cafe that served beers in something we’d use for a trifle, the rose was yummy and so was the lasagna.
