The hotel where we are staying is really delightful. I’d highly recommend it if you are looking for somewhere central and uncomplicated – relatively inexpensive (Copenhagen is expensive) with a touch of luxury đź’•

We have a date with a castle this morning but on the way we pass the beautiful Church of Our Lady (Danish: Vor Frue Kirke). There has been a church in this spot since 1209. The present building was consecrated in 1829, its predecessor having been destroyed in the bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807. It’s beautiful and very peaceful, we have the place almost to ourselves. Like much of Europe the streets are pretty quiet before 10.00 and so it’s the perfect time to sit and reflect if you have the time.

Now onward to the castle. The Changing of the Guard ceremony starts each day with the Danish Royal Guard marching from Rosenborg Castle to Amalienborg Palace at 11:30 am to arrive at Amalienborg Palace 12.00pm. We actually came to Rosenborg yesterday without realising that you need to pre book your tickets. So we are back here again today.

As castles go, this is not a bad one to visit. The staircases are pretty tight and so there are constraints on the number of people they allow in at a time which is fantastic.

The highlight of the castle for me is the treasury. I am not afraid to admit some sparkling jewels and a nice crown are my idea of a good time.

And of course every sword I see, I flash back to the greatest sword fight ever – Inigo Montoya and the man in black … ” Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die”..

Just across the road from the Castle and across the road is the Natural History Museum of Denmark. An awesome place for kids (of all ages). The location is wonderful with the museum located in the corner of the Botanical Garden and in the heart of Copenhagen. Like many museums there are plenty of sage warnings about the impact we are having on the planet 🌍.

A walk through the botanical gardens, a lovely spot for a picnic and then onto the butterflies 🦋

And an afternoon canal cruise – a must while in Copenhagen.

And then a walk along the shoreline. It is as pretty as the pictures. Copenhagen is known for “its design-focused culture, vibrant food scene, historical landmarks, and commitment to sustainability“. And is one of the “most liveable cities” in the world, and I can see why.

Thanks for having us 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
