Another day, another market. Today we are at Borough Market. A tip for the uninitiated this market is not open on a Monday, yes it’s always good to read the fine print 😳. This is Londons oldest fruit and vegetable wholesale market, dating back to the 1770s.

We’ve been to these markets on a previous visit as we were going to see a play at the Globe, and we’re grabbing a quick lunch before it started and so we didn’t have a lot of time to spare. This time we had as much time as we needed to walk mindlessly up and around the walkways, being harangued by food vendors wanting us to taste their tucker. The Markets history is closely tied to the history of this great city and they expanded as the population grew. Borough Markets is all about food, unlike Camden which has all kinds of small businesses peddling their wares, denim jackets to crystals and everything in between! And for those with a keen eye, yes scenes from two Harry Potter movies were filmed here, it’s a perfect location for a wizardry prison or a leaky cauldron🪄🧙

London Bridge is truly lovely to walk across and a short walk from the Borough Market. And would a trip to London, really be a trip to London without a wander across one of the cities bridges. Not in my book 😀

After a day at the markets, of course you need a night at the Theatre on the West End with a glass of champagne and a selfie 🥂.

For our final day, which was drizzling a little we decided on a trip to the Sky Gardens. Another good tip (and something we should have known) you have to book in advance, we did not 😩, I think the first booking we could get was in three weeks time. But there is an alternative, the Garden at 120. This roof top garden on the 15th floor of 10 Fenchurch Avenue, London City is a couple of blocks from the Sky Garden. The experience was lovely, it was hassle free, no queues, no booking required and it has wonderful views and some gorgeous hydrangeas (amongst other plants). I can’t compare it of course to the Sky Gardens, but it did the trick so that we weren’t too disappointed.

And to finish an awesome day and stay in London it was the birthday boys choice to go to Schnitzel Heaven. It’s a couple of stops from Kings Cross Station and about 30 minutes Clapham. The food is big, the restaurant feels chaotic, the vibe is great. It’s described as a meeting place for schnitzel lovers. As schnitzels aren’t food they are a tradition. Who am I to contradict this philosophy 😀
It was great fun and a perfect end to a few days in London.
