What a beautiful place to wake up the farm is such a wonderful place to stay, like many other places I wish we had a little bit longer here.
Today we are headed for Spain, I am a little bit excited as Spain has always been on my wish list of places to visit. It is only a few hours drive but we do need to get our trusty van back to Avis as well as find our way to the apartment we are staying at.
On the way we decide to make a quick detour into Elvas as there are a few places we’d like to explore. Unfortunately the parking is dreadful with the van and so we have half an hour to have a quick look at the aquaduct – these things are amazing, building commenced on the Amoreira Aqueduct in 1537 and it provides water to the entire town. Prior to it being built the only water available was from a fountain, which was of course not sustainable for the population. As the well began to dry up the King initially ordered that the well be improved, this didn’t work. So in 1537 King John III sent architect Francisco de Arruda to Elvas to make changes to the primitive plan. I would like to say this solved the problems but alas it didn’t and basically a heap of money was thrown at the project for a number of years until in 1620 the first waters reached the gates.
Work on the aqua duct continued up until 1872 when a public works project was undertaken to conserve and restore the aqua duct.

After our quick sprint around Elvas (another place I would easily come back to) and it’s aqua duct we are on our way to Seville, Spain. We’re in Seville for a few days which is great as it means we can unpack the suitcases, do some washing and settle in a bit. We are staying in a three bedroom apartment that overlooks the Guadalquivir River, so very well situated and it appears to be almost brand new.

Dinner is at a local place Casa Cuesta which has been open since 1880 and was recommended to us as a great place to eat. It sits in the middle of Triana quarter just a few minutes from our apartment and the Triana Bridge. This place may be more of a local hangout rather than a place for non Spanish speaking tourists to come but the food was devine and as you will see below in the pictures (that don’t do the place justice) feels a little like you’ve gone back in time.

Back at the hotel Vic introduced us to a new game using scrabble squares Take Two, it was good fun and a nice way to finish the evening while sipping red wine. We can’t wait to explore the streets of Seville.
